Pancake Day!

Members of the Parents Association were in school this morning to cook the pancakes for the children as we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. Over 200 pancakes were cooked for the children, teachers and helpers.

This has been a regular feature for many years at Sacred Heart before Lent and it is an event that the children always remember.

Once again the school is very grateful to the Parents Association members who gave up their time to attend the event and  for continuing to provide for the children as we prepare for Lent.

Mr Grech retires!

Mr Grech – Happy retirement!

Today will be Mr Grech’s last  day at work after being at Sacred Heart since 1978! Who will now open the school gates at 6am every morning? We wish him all the best in his retirement and extend an invitation to him to return for coffee when he pleases, as long as he brings the churros!

Mr Grech was much loved by the children at Sacred Heart and will be missed by all.

Mr Kyle Pecino will take over his classes  until such time as a new Head of ICT is appointed.

School Choir delights the crowd

Our school choir delighted the huge crowd gathered in Main Street for the switching on of the Christmas lights. Well done!

The Christmas Illuminations were switched on last night on the Main Street side of the John Mackintosh Square in front of Parliament House.

Eleven-year-old Kevin Castle carried out the honours of switching on the illuminations which will brighten Gibraltar’s main thoroughfare in the run up to Christmas Day and throughout the festive season.

Kevin was accompanied by his family and friends and Joe Holliday, Minister for Enterprise, Development, Technology and Transport and the staff of the Gibraltar Electricity Authority engaged in the installation of the illuminations, were in attendance.

Inter School Basketball Competition 2011

A Great Start in the Boys Inter-School Basketball Tournament

Although we have lost the last two games we have had a good start to the tournament this year. In fact, it has probably been the best start in recent years!

In the first game we played against Bishop Fitzgerald’s School. This is a school that we have lost against in the last couple of years. On this occasion, we did manage to win against them. I am glad to say that we have talented individuals in the team. However, it has been their attitude that has helped them do so well; they always listen and are willing to try hard for their team and their school.

It was not an easy game but we managed to score the first couple of points and this boosted our confidence. The boys were passing, moving around the court and shooting. They defended with a lot of heart and gave it their all. Aimahd Benyussef played an excellent game and managed to score most of our goals. Jamie Mesilio, Kieron Baglietto and Julian Vinales were also invaluable to the team. However, it is not just these few children that have been playing well but the whole team: Richard Silva, Jesse Picardo Peralta, Mark Watson, Stefan Hitchcock, Kieron Baglietto, Jake Noguera, Mohamed El Yetefti, Johann Mills and Jake Noguera.

The second match was played in St Joseph’s School and we played against a very strong team. We had many opportunities at goal but unfortunately, St Joseph’s boys were more consistent in front of the basket. I think we can obtain better results when they play in our home court. We then played against St Anne’s school and although we did try, I think our boys lacked in confidence. Nevertheless, it was a decent result as they were a good team with many promising basketball players.

Mrs. Roper and I have been preparing them for this tournament and they have been training after school (in the stadium) and during lunch (in school). I am glad to say that the children have committed themselves to this busy schedule. Hopefully we should do well in the next matches if we manage to learn from the mistakes that we have made so far. The children are as keen as ever and looking forward to playing again. They have already made our school very proud.
